Eleven years ago, Canada pledged to protect its marine environment against pollution and habitat destruction resulting from human activities on land

Geography – large diverse countries with long coastlines; major river basin inputs

Incorporate sustainable development from start
Knowledge and lessons learned

Lessons Learned
Adapt the methodology set out in the GPA to your own country
Strengthen partnerships between ministries with shared interests
Communicate the goals of your NPA and promote your achievements
Establish a national secretariat to provide guidance and support
Use your NPA to improve efficiency by linking existing programs
Establish methods for setting priorities, monitoring, measuring progress
